Walking past a construction site, I watched some men laying paving stones. Along both sides of the path were piles of stones. These were the rejected halves of stones cut when the path rounded a corner or came to a border. I asked the foreman, Michael, if I could have some of them and his reply was “one or four wheelbarrows full?” I seemed to be doing him a favour. To me it was better than discovering a gold mine. Along with the stones I'd brought back from Wales (they were not off stone walls), my local nursery now has an excellent set of real building bricks.
When you purchase imitation rocks or cork bricks they come in a useful cardboard box. Mine did not, but come to think of it, I am sure Michael could get me some cartons as well. Anybody out there know some other builders?
