This is a great game to play at a party, picnic or children's event.
You will need:
-
a large paper sack (or layer paper mache around an inflated ballon, let dry for several days, then burst the balloon)
-
a length of rope
-
one empty plastic soda bottle to hit the pinata
-
red, green, and white crepe paper or ribbons
-
individually wrapped candy and fruit
The sack is filled with candy and fruit. and decorated with the crepe paper streamers. The rope is tied to it and thrown over a beam, limb or support over the heads of the group.
Players stand in a circle or semi-circle around the dangling sack (pinata). One person is blindfolded and handed the empty plastic soda bottle. He/she is allowed to feel the piñata and told to hit it hard enough to break it. Another person holds the rope and suddenly pulls the sack out of reach of the blindfolded player. When he has tried three times unsuccessfully, another is chosen to try. After the group has enjoyed this for a while, one player is allowed to strike the sack and break it. The contents are showered out and all may help themselves, or have two or three of the group collect up and pass around the fruit and candy.
(Remember to keep players well away from the one attempting to strike the pinata.)
