Picture pancakes

Here’s a fun idea for a birthday party. Mix some pancake batter (recipe below) and divide it into three or four basins. Add some food colouring to each. One can be left white. If you have several squeeze bottles or empty plastic milk jugs, put the batter into these as it will make it easier to form the picture pancakes.

Heat an electric pan and put in a little oil. (Keep pan and cord out of reach of little ones!) If it’s done safely, each child can have a turn to squeeze different colours of batter into the pan and make pictures, such as a clown face, a flower, party hat, etc. Enjoy your colourful pancakes with syrup or lemon-sugar on top.

Pancakes

Combine:
     1  cup flour
     1  Tablespoon sugar
     1  Tablespoon baking powder
     ½  teaspoon salt

Mix and stir into dry ingredients until just smooth (don't beat):
     1 egg
     ¾   cup milk
     2 Tablespoons vegetable oil

If you plan to use squeeze bottles, add more milk to make the batter a thinner consistency.  Makes 5 or 6 nine-inch pancakes.
