Our most precious jewels

Child and carer

Over two million people visit the Tower of London each year. There you can see the Crown Jewels, worth an estimated £39 million, proudly guarded by the Yeoman Warders. Though I enjoyed visiting the Tower, once was enough.

The other day I paused near the entrance of a London primary school and nursery and watched as the parents arrived with their children. Although I didn’t know any of the children, I walked on encouraged for the rest of the day. The Crown Jewels may be worth millions, but we are entrusted with the care and nurture of children. Each child is infinitely precious. Our work must be done in humility, as we work with growing creative beings. While not everyone may value this work, we can take pride in knowing that it is of utmost importance.
